The Power Of Prayer

And I sought for  a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it.
But I found non, therefore Have I found out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath.  Their own ways have I recompensed upon their heads, says the Lord.
Ezekiel 22:30

  1. Why does God need me to pray?
  2. If He is God He can make up His own will and touch hurting people anyway!
  3. Others say I know God loves everybody, He proved it by sending His Son to die for all of us.

This is all true, but wait, look what God says from His throne:

Call upon Me and I will answer you or show you what I can do, great and mighty things.  Jer. 33:3
Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be open unto you.  Matt. 7:7

What does it mean to stand in the gap?
They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the molten image.   Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eats grass.   They forgot God their Savior, which had done great things in Egypt;  wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.   Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. Psalm 106:19-23

God showed mercy because Moses stood between the people of God and God.

And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?   Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.   Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swear by your Own self, and said unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Exodus 32:11-14
