Day 6: Message From Sharon Goodnow

Only our Pastors could place a night of food, fellowship and laughter in the midst of a Daniel Fast. That alone made the evening begin with an inner anticipation of , “What next God?”

How delightful it was to fellowship at last night’s “Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage.” Our hosts, Pastor and Yolanda Duley had the event catered. “But the church is on a Daniels Fast”, I thought… I think they love to do what no one expects! I was surprised by both our wonderful appetizer spread and the evenings DVD. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself…

The couples came into the fellowship little by little and as they did our caterer and her husband began to deliver beautiful platters of food. She created food in line with our fast, both savory and sweet. For a moment I saw what looked like chocolate-chocolate chip cookies and said to myself “IT’S A COOKIE!” In actuality it was a bean wafer with a dollop of sauce and itsy bitsy pieces of pineapple on top. (yummy) There was platter after platter of delightfully tasty creations made just for us. Whew! It was a happy surprise. I actually wondered if we could have a fellowship with healthy food and enjoy it… And everyone did.

You could hear laughter and talking through-out the fellowship hall. After sampling one of everything at the tables…okay, that’s a lie…it could have been 2, maybe 3) But seriously, I didn’t know Daniel Fast food could taste so good! The conversation inevitably came around to how everyone was doing on the fast. There were comparisons, sharing, discoveries and challenges shared. We are blessed to have one another. It was a half hour of laughter, eating, drinking (water) and fun.

Okay, this is the best part. Now it’s time to go into the sanctuary for our DVD. Pastor welcomes everyone (well, not everyone because “you” weren’t there…and you know who you are, we missed you!) and I look up in the middle of his welcome over his shoulder and see the word “SEX”, mm-hmm, yes I said sex! I was peddling my bike through this entire evening and came to a complete halt. I’m not sure what he said in his prayer but I did hear the, “Amen.” And so begins our lesson…

Our speaker began to share that he was going to teach married couples the path to the best sex ever! As he spoke there were no snickers, muffled laughter or heads turning to see if anyone saw them give a knowing smile… We were hysterical! It was awesome to hear the truth about sex spoken with such honesty, openness and humor. That sex within marriage was the God inspired plan! God created us, sex and the directions, the know-how and the mapping to do it well and Christians have the potential to have the “best sex ever!” How is that for inspirational!

You know friend, God does all things well. We can place the mundane to the ridiculous in His hand and He doesn’t even blink!

20Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do super-abundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]-- 21To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). Ephesians 3:20-21.

Don’t just be encouraged…be brilliantly outrageous and leap into His hands, entrusting him with your utmost and every molecule of your being, every detail of your life! He’s up to the challenge! You will be amazed at what God can do with you, in you. through you and for you! Cuz…He’s God! And nothing is impossible for HIM!

Be Blessed,

Sharon Goodnow
